Working on oral health is a flywheel for recovery.

Dental pain affects sleep, concentration, nutrition, confidence, and a person's ability to fully engage in other important treatments. For some patients, untreated oral health problems become one more daily crisis competing for attention and energy.

Research conducted through Utah's Project FLOSS found that participants who received dental treatment stayed in treatment approximately twice as long and were significantly more likely to complete their recovery programs than participants who did not receive dental care.

Oral health care can significantly remove barriers that make recovery and rehabilitation harder. The case is hard to overstate.

Support from recovery programs

While a patient is in treatment, they often have access to transportation, accountability, encouragement, stability, time, and practical support that may not exist later. They are also often in a growth mindset, making comprehensive dental care possible and worthwhile.
