Recovery Partner Guide

This page explains how recovery programs can work with SunDrop: preparation, appointment requests, partner access, Saturday Standby, and resources.

The purpose of this process: when programs prepare patients, arrange reliable transportation, and communicate changes early, clients better honor appointment times. This helps more patients with urgent needs be seen and allows more recovery programs to partner with SunDrop Dental.

The Pre-Visit Workbook

The workbook is required before a first appointment.

It should be brought complete to the first appointment, along with a printed list of current medications.

It helps patients understand what SunDrop does and does not offer, attendance expectations, Medicaid limitations, aftercare responsibilities, and clinic boundaries.

Before you request an appointment

The best predictor of a successful appointment is preparation.

Before sending a referral, please make sure the patient and the program can support the appointment from the first visit through ongoing care.

Please call us with any questions on these items.

Send a referral after the patient is prepared.

Partner access to scheduling

Reliable Partners Receive Priority Access.

SunDrop's appointment availability changes throughout the year. When demand exceeds capacity, priority is given to partners who consistently prepare patients, protect appointment time, and communicate well.

Strongest access typically means:

  • Complete workbooks before first appointments.
  • Send patients ready to begin treatment, practically and emotionally.
  • Patients consistently arrive on time.
  • Keep a reachable point-person on file.
  • Notify SunDrop when patients leave treatment.

What helps a partnership grow?

Over time, we naturally develop closer working relationships with programs that consistently send prepared patients and protect appointment time.

These partners often receive:

  • Earlier and ongoing notice of openings
  • Faster scheduling coordination
  • Greater flexibility during busy seasons

What weakens partner access?

  • Incomplete workbooks
  • Repeated late arrivals
  • No-call/no-show appointments
  • Unreachable coordinators
  • Failure to notify SunDrop when patients leave treatment

Rebuilding is simple.

A short period of successful appointments usually resolves most concerns. Use one consistent point-person, complete the workbook before scheduling, confirm transportation, and communicate changes early.

Saturday standby

Continuing care after appointment snafus.

A missed appointment means prolonged dental pain for other patients who are waiting to be scheduled. When appointments are missed, or the patient arrives too late to be seen (more than 20 minutes late), a patient may be moved to Saturday Standby.

Saturday Standby allows patients to demonstrate reliability and commitment to dental treatment after missing an appointment.

How it works:

Call the day before

Patient or caseworker must call or text Friday to confirm whether Saturday Standby is available.

Arrive before 9 AM

Patients are seen first-come, first-served. Being present does not guarantee treatment that day, but it is highly likely. If no patients are present at 9 AM, our staff leaves for the day.

Standby is not an appointment

We typically see 2-3 patients every other Saturday on a standby basis.

Bring the Standby Guide

Download the instruction guide and have the patient bring it with them.
